“SUICIDE IS A PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUE”

According to WHO data, (World Health Organization) about 800,000 people die by suicide each year.  “Self-directed violence” is ranked by WHO as the 14th leading cause of death.  However, the organization itself recognizes that one of the major obstacles to the prevention of suicide is precisely the difficulty of identifying it as a public health issue.
Often the problem is stigmatized and keeps the patient from seeking professional and even family help.
Suicide is becoming increasingly evident as more than 90% of suicide cases are associated with mental health issues or due to major depression.
No need to be afraid to talk about suicide.
Many people still find that talking about suicide aggravates or stimulates the situation.  But mental health experts disagree.  In fact, legitimizing a responsible conversation on the topic can help people seek appropriate help.
And it all starts by building a non-judgmental space in which the theme can be spoken.
Talking openly about suicide is very important and can greatly help those who are in great psychological distress and seeing death as an alternative to put an end to their suffering.  Ideally, the person should be listened to by a professional subject matter expert, who has knowledge and practice to approach people at risk of suicide.  However, a family, a friend, or a teacher can help by helping a lot without special preparation to deal with the issue, provided they follow some basic and fundamental recommendations.  Thought about death is one thing, suicidal ideation is another
There is a difference, however, that needs to be scored.  Thinking about death is more common.  Everyone has found themselves in a situation where they imagined the end of life.  However, the ideation of suicide is something more serious.  It arises the moment one thinks that there is no longer any value in staying alive.  People feel that pain and suffering are impossible to overcome, unbearable and endless.  Alone, they cannot realize that they can have help and that a distortion of their lived reality is often happening in their minds.
Falling in the world, suicide cases are advancing among young Brazilians and much in foreigners as well.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has already warned that suicide is the second leading cause of death among young people.
